Mariánska hora in Levoča is one of the oldest and most famous pilgrimage sites in Slovakia. The pilgrimage, which takes place every year on the first Sunday of July, can be dated back to the time when the Friars Minor, spreading Marian devotion, dedicated the chapel built on the hill to the Visitation of the Virgin Mary at the end of the 14th century. Originally, a chapel was built on the fort on the hill, where processions from neighboring villages went to give thanks. Pilgrimages continued every year and got bigger every year.
The most valuable part of the church is the gracious statue of the Virgin Mary, who welcomes crowds of pilgrims with open arms.

Oh Blessed Mother, our Levočská Panna Mária, for many centuries, you were the Mother and Protector of Your Slovak children. Look upon me with your merciful eyes and hear my prayer. Give me comfort in my sorrow, strength in my adversity and light in darkness and doubt. You can help me in my needs even if it requires a miracle. Jesus will not deny you anything. True, I am unworthy of Your kindness because of my sins, but I am Your child, and You are my Mother, You will not reject me. Please find You in my need of weakness, motivation, hearing this plea of mine...
Oh, Blessed Mother Levočská, I love You and I promise to get others to love You too. Accept me as your child and cover me with the mantle of your protection. Above all, ask me for the grace of a holy life and a happy death. Do not leave me dear Matička Levočská, until I am safe in the heavens, so that I can praise God with you and sing Your praises forever. Amen.
