Do you know how Jesus suffered?

Do you know how Jesus suffered?

Perhaps from your childhood you remember Passion as gospel songs from the liturgy of Palm Sunday and Good Friday. The dramatization of the story of the martyrdom of Jesus Christ has already impressed more than one participant of the services.

Meaning of the word

The word passion comes from the Latin word passio, which means suffering. The deacon who reads the Gospel always begins with the words: Reading from the Holy Gospel according to... But when reading the Gospel on Palm Sunday and Good Friday, these words sound a little differently: The Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ according to... That's why the name of the Passion has become established for the presentation of the Gospel during these two days.

Vivid description of suffering

The reader of the Gospels would probably be surprised how much of them is the story of Jesus' passion. For example, in the Gospel according to Mark, the narration of the torture of Jesus makes up almost a fifth of the entire text. These passages are believed to be the first continuous texts about the life of Jesus Christ. It was therefore important for their authors to present the story of the passion of the Son of God as detailed and plastically as possible.

The Last supper

From time immemorial, many artists have tried to express fragments from the passion story in their works of art. Choralis Wood Art offers precisely crafted reliefs depicting Gospel events from the Last Supper to the Crucifixion exactly as the story is told by the Evangelists. The Last Supper is a much more important event for Christians than just the last session at the table. According to the Gospels, the Last Supper was the event in which Jesus instituted the Eucharist, which has immense meaning for the Christian. This is also why Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper is one of the most famous works of art. It is a wall painting located on the front wall of the refectory of the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan. View the rendering of the Last Supper scene from the Choralis Wood Art workshop.

Resting Jesus

The scourging

An exceptional place belongs to the statue of the Resting Jesus from the Choralis Wood Art workshop. It is a unique depiction of the resting Christ, whose body is covered with scourging wounds and a crown of thorns. Flogging was an extremely cruel punishment, as its straps were tipped with a piece of bone or a lead hook to cause as much injury as possible to the skin of the person being whipped. However, Jesus has a lily in his hand, which is a sign of innocence. The contrast of innocence and cruel torture, or resting after whipping and the idea that the hardest thing is yet to come, is a very strong statement of this work.

Resting Jesus is available in a natural finish (natural, unpainted wood) or in a color that beautifully emphasizes every detail. Of course, it is also possible to choose a version from a wide range of sizes, starting from nine centimeters and ending with life sized.

The detail of the tortured face expresses the relief from the cover photo of the article.

Calvary

Jesus' suffering ended outside the borders of ancient Jerusalem, on a hill called Golgotha or Calvary, where, according to tradition, Jesus Christ died on the cross. Crucifixion was one of the cruelest punishments known to the ancient Romans.

Passion of Christ Wooden Relief is the representation of the Crucified Christ with the holy apostle John and the Virgin Mary. On its sides are smaller depictions of the Passion events from the Agony in the Gethsemane Garden, the Capture to the Way of the Cross. In this case too, Choralis Wood Art offers a wide selection of opening relief sizes.
